Why is NoRedInk important?
As an Educational Venture Analyst and English teacher with five years of experience, I can understand the reason NoRedInk founder, Jeff Scheur, was frustrated in his teaching practice. When marking pieces of student writing, teachers often correct the same types of errors over and over again. Correcting these errors is time consuming and often ineffective as students never actually do anything with this information. Student look at their essay when it is handed back, and then never again. Jeff Scheur was tired of this so he wanted to create something to help educators to teach students grammar more effectively, and to help students practice the types of errors they commonly make until they understand how to correct them on their own.
I have used NoRedInk with my students in class and see how much they enjoy practicing with it and how useful it is for me to keep track of how each of my students is progressing through the material. The ability to assign practice work as well as quizzes, gives teachers flexibility in terms of formative and summative assessments and students the ability to learn at their own pace.

What is NoRedInk?
NoRedInk is a grammar practice site that offers much more than the traditional grammar worksheets. It allows for differentiation of questions for students based on their interests and adapts the questions so that athletes, singers, popular TV show characters, or even the student´s family and friends names are featured in the questions.
Teachers can assign quizzes for classes or specific students, depending on the requirement. Teachers can then see how many times a particular student attempted a question, what their specific incorrect answers were, and how long they spent on each question. The question are not just multiple choice; students have to throw out incorrect punctuation, add commas, click on words to capitalized them, or even edit the text directly. This ensures that students actually know the material, rather than just guess correctly from the list of options. According to their website, every 0.25 seconds a student solves a question on NoRedInk.com.
In the assignments option, students can answer a question as many times as it takes for them to get it correct and NoRedInk gives them the option of having that question explained in a tutorial and then they can practice what they learned, immediately. This type of formative feedback is extremely time consuming for teachers, and that is why this application is well-liked by educators.
This is explained very well by the chart taken from the user area of noredink.com shown below:
